WHOM CAN YOU TRUST?
WHOM CAN YOU TRUST?
In today’s world, virtually everyone’s trust has been betrayed at one time or another. Even the global economic plight is largely the result of what the French newspaper Le Monde calls “a widespread crisis of confidence.
What factors have contributed to the present-day “crisis of confidence“? Is there anyone you can trust?

IS LIFE ADVERSRIES PUNISHMENT FROM GOD?
IS LIFE ADVERSRIES PUNISHMENT FROM GOD?
Has a traumatic event in your life caused you to ask if God intends for you to suffer adversity? A sudden illness, a crippling accident, or an untimely death in the family may make us feel that we are being singled out by God for punishment.
Contrary to such thoughts, you should feel comforted that God wants people to be happy and free from harm. This is seen in the fact that when God created the first humans, he put them in “the garden of Eden”, a park like paradise, where life would be free of all adversity. (Genesis 2:15)
Regrettably, the first human pair chose to turn their back on this wonderful prospect and willfully disobeyed God. The result was calamitous not only for them but also for all their offspring, include us. Why? The situation can be likened to what results when a family head reneges on his agreement to pay rent-the entire family get evicted from their home and are exposed to hardship and deprivation. Similarly, adversity has become the lot of all humankind since the first rebellion. (Romans5:12) Many years later, the righteous man job lamented that if his pain and suffering could be “put on scale” they would be “heavier even than the sands of the seas.”
While you wait for God to eliminate adversity completely, what can you do now to minimize its effect? First and foremost, ”do not lean upon your own understanding,” the Bible admonished us, but “trust in God with all your heart.” (proverb3:5) Look to him for guidance and comfort. Pay attention to the godly wisdom found in the Bible. It will help you to make wise decisions and protect you from those adversities that can be avoided. (proverbs 22:3)

AN EAST ASIAN IN ANCIENT ITALY
AN EAST ASIAN IN ANCIENT ITALY
How did a man of Asian origin end up in the ancient Roman Empire 2,000 years ago? That was the question facing archaeologist after they made a fascinating discovery in southern Italy in 2009.
The site was an ancient Roman cemetery at Vagnari, 60 kilometers west of Bari. Seventy five human skeletons were uncovered .Tests on the bones indicated that most of the people were born nearby. Yet, the skeleton of one man surprised the researchers. Analysis of his mitochondrial DNA showed that he had East Asian ancestry on his mother’s side. His remains dated to the first or second century C.E. According to a report on the find, “this appears to be the first time that a skeleton with an East Asian ancestry has been discovered in the Roman Empire”. So who was this Man?
“At first glance it’s tempting to link this fellow to the silk trade that flourished between China and Rome”, says the same report. However, it is thought that such trade was carried on by a series of intermediaries, or middlemen, with no one person actually making the whole 8,000-kilometer trek between China and Italy.
What can the place where remains were found tell us? In ancient times, Vagnari was a rural imperial estate-land controlled by the emperor-where laborers smelted iron and produced clay tiles. Many of the workers there were slaves, and it is likely that this Oriental was too. In fact, his burial was not that of a wealthy man. His surviving goods, which were buried with him, amounted to a single pot, and another body had been buried on pot of his.
Why is this find of interest? The spread of the Christian message in the first century C.E. depended on how far the ancients traveled. The Bible reports that after Pentecost 33C.E. the good news was carried far and wide by foreign visitors to Jerusalem. (Act2:1-12, 37-41) At the very least, this skeleton suggested that about that time some people were travelling from East Asian to the Mediterranean region.
Just One More Drink
Just One More Drink
A young boy began abusing alcohol at age of 12 years old. He and his friend played around the woods, imitating characters they saw in movies. The characters were fictional but the drinks were real.
A man was 40 when he gradually increased his drinks from one to two each evening to five or six. Eventually, he lost count of how many drinks he had throughout the day. The young boy sought help for his alcohol problem. The 4o years old man rejected the assistance offered by caring family and friend’s .the young boy is alive today to tell his story; the 40 years old man some years ago died in a motor vehicle accident after drinking too much liquor.
Even when someone drink’s too much, the effect of his excesses inevitable spill over into other people’s lives, often with tragic consequences. Alcohol misuse is frequently a factor verbal and physical abuse, in assaults and murder, in car accident and work-related injuries, as well as in a host of health problems. Alcohol abuse cost society billions of dollars per year, not to mention the personal and emotional toll it takes on individuals, families, and children .BUT NOT EVERYONE WHO DRINKS Regularly HAS A DRINKING PROBLEM.
If you choose to drink alcohol, how much is too much? How can you know when not to have “just one more drink”
